If you're looking for that one Halloween snack that gets all the "ooohs" and "aaahs," these Mummy Hotdogs are it!

Yes, they take a little more time than the Cheese Stick Ghosts, but they are absolutely worth the effort. They are a savory, filling treat perfect for dinner or a party centerpiece!

What You'll Need

  • Hotdogs (we recommend all-beef for great flavor! or whatever is on sale!)

  • Pillsbury Crescent Roll Dough or other roll dough

  • Candy Eyeballs (edible)

  • Ketchup (or mustard/cream cheese, for "glue")

The Step-by-Step Mummy Transformation

This snack takes a bit of time and precision, but the final result is too cute to pass up. Here are the exact steps we followed:

  1. Prep the Hotdogs: Start by cutting up the hotdogs into the desired serving size (halves or even thirds work great for little hands!).

  2. Prep the Wraps: Next, you'll be rolling out the dough and cutting it into strips. We recommend using a pizza cutter to make the strips clean and even.

  3. Wrap the Mummies: Take a strip of dough and begin adding the dough to the hotdogs. Wrap the strips around the hotdog, stretching them gently and leaving a small gap near the top for the face. Don't worry about perfection; messy wraps look more ancient!

  4. Bake: Now, it's time for baking the mummies according to the dough's package directions until they are puffed and golden brown. (375 degrees until they are the degree of golden that you want!)I also brushed them with butter when they came out of the oven.

  5. Add the Eyes: After baking, you must letting them cool completely. Once cool, use a tiny dot of ketchup to make the candy eyeballs stick. Ketchup gives them that fun, slightly spooky red background, too!

6. Now they are ready for your party table display! Enjoy!

🌱 Learning Connections

Sequencing & Following Directions: This recipe is perfect for practicing sequencing skills (First, Second, Third). Have children recite the steps as they go—it's a multi-step project that requires planning!

Fine Motor Skills: Rolling out the dough and carefully wrapping the strips around the hotdogs are excellent activities for building fine motor dexterity and coordination. Placing the tiny candy eyeballs with precision requires a steady hand!

Math: Practice fractions by discussing the sizes when cutting up the hotdogs (halves or thirds).

🌞 Final Thoughts

The Mummy Hotdogs are hands-down one of the most fun things you can make for Halloween. Yes, they took the most time out of all our snacks, but they make for a memorable, satisfying treat that is worth every minute spent wrapping!
